Reviews of Vietnam War Books

March 24th, 2012

Greetings today and thank you for reading. I’m Richard and I’m writing to you today to inform you about a new website I am building, VietnamWarBooks.net. I’m a massive fan of the Vietnam War and all of the history, the films and books. I was looking around to see if I could find a decent website on Vietnam war books, because I found really they are the best way of getting under the skin of the participants and finding out what truly happened out there. I couldn’t really find anything so I’ve decided to build a simple easy to use website which has book reviews of the very best works to emerge from the Vietnam War.

Okay, let me tell you about how I’ve got all of the information organised on my website. If people are like me, I’m guessing they are interested in various different genres of Vietnam war books. It may be that some people are looking for stories on the special forces, perhaps on snipers, on the grunts, or perhaps history books or reportage style books. I’ve organised my information in a way that you can identify what kind of book you’re looking for and navigate straight to it. At VietnamWarBooks.net I’ve got the best reviews of the best books to come out of Vietnam.

My website is organised into different sections and different categories according to which Vietnam book you’re after. I’ve got a special section entitled “snipers” which features some fantastic books written by soldiers who were Vietnam snipers. These include Dear Mom: A Sniper’s Vietnam by Joseph T Ward and Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills, both unbelievable accounts written by men whose job it was to shoot at the enemy from unbelievably far distances. I’ve also got a section which I’ve called “airborne” which discusses books written by those who served in the helicopters. Robert Mason’s Chickenhawk is one of my favourites in this section.

Alongside a section on snipers I’ve also got sections entitled grunts, which look at GI’s stories, and also one on special forces. This latter reviews some of the most outstanding books to come out of the commandos and elite special units. One of the best of these is Blackjack 34 written by James Donahue. It describes a single day where Donahue’s behind the enemy lines patrol is discovered by the enemy and the mission goes horribly wrong. I’ve also got sections dealing with incredible true stories and another one which I’ve called reportage. In this you will find reviews of some of the best books written by journalists to come out of the Vietnam War including one of the best, Dispatches, written by Michael Herr.

Finally, as a companion piece to my genre sections, I’ve got a little potted history of Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. This is intended as an introduction to those who might be new to the war or who just want to refresh themselves on what happened. Throughout my website I’ve dealt with books which deal with unbelievable heroism, brutality, suffering, action and adventure and hopefully highlighted which are the very best books that you can read coming out of the Vietnam conflict. Please do visit and have a look through the reviews and I’m sure you’ll find something which you like.
